Pediatric Surgery Fellowships
The division of pediatric surgery has an ACGME accredited two year postgraduate residency program in Pediatric Surgery. Incoming residents are required to have completed a fully accredited residency in general surgery. The first year fellow spends eight to ten months on the pediatric surgery service with a required rotation in neonatology and electives available in urology, pathology, gastroenterology, critical care, anesthesiology and cardiovascular surgery. Residents participate in running one of the two clinical services and develop operative experience in the full range of neonatal surgery (including ECMO), prenatal counseling, acquired and congenital conditions of infancy and childhood, and childhood tumors.
As the states only Pediatric Level I Trauma Center, candidates participate in the non-operative and operative management of a wide variety of injuries. Pediatric surgery faculty take in-house call in order to allow the residents to maximize the day time operative experience.
