Scott A. Engum, MD grew up in Minnesota and North Dakota graduating from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and then went on to advanced training at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine matriculating in 1989.  Residency training in general surgery was received at Indiana University in Indianapolis (1989 – 1994) and pediatric surgery fellowship training (1994-1996) concluded at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital For Children.  Dr. Engum has been on staff at Riley since conclusion of training and has been involved in student, resident and fellow education with primary roles in the 3rd year surgical clerkship and basic clinical skills competency.  In 2008, Dr. Engum became the medical director for the Simulation Center at Fairbanks Hall which is a collaborative effort of IU Health, and IU school’s of medicine and nursing.  Dr. Engum continues to participate in educational opportunities that surround student, resident and fellowship training alongside his clinical practice which favors minimally invasive surgical management.

Clinical Interests: Dr. Engum is the Director of the Simulation Center at Fairbanks Hall which is a collaboration between Clarian Health Partners, IU School's of Medicine and Nursing. Through his career he has had a high interest in medical education and directed the Basic Clinical Skills Competency for the School of Medicine and The 3rd Year Surgical Clerkship. He maintains a number of committee positions locally and nationally as it relates to pediatric surgery and medical education. Dr. Engum has a special interest in minimally invasive procedures and chest wall deformities.
